A DOT inspection is a safety inspection to verify DOT compliance, a federally-regulated inspection that’s required to be performed annually.
It must be a safety inspection to verify DOT compliance for any commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) with a Gross Vehicle Weight of over 10,001 pounds, for vehicles transporting placarded hazardous materials, and for vehicles used for transporting nine or more passengers for compensation or 16 or more people not for compensation (FMCSA).
Any commercial vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight of 10,000 pounds or more needs a DOT inspection.
It’s required no less than once a year. But, many customers choose to do a DOT inspection multiple times a year for risk abatement.
